United Assyrian Appeal (UAA) was founded in 2015 and transitioned to being recognized by the IRS as a not-for-profit 501(C)(3) charitable organization in 2016. UAA continues to provide aid to Christian families of soldiers who were battling ISIS and fighting to keep the root of Christianity alive in Iraq and Syria from 2014-2017. Although the Assyrian Army was removed from the battlefield of Iraq in August of 2017, UAA continues to support the Assyrian Christian families and other members of displaced Christian communities in their effort to support the needy Christians in the Middle East region. One of the many International Non-Governmental Organizations UAA teams up within the region is the ETANA Woman’s Organization. ETANA supports impoverished women and children in northern Iraq.

In 2018UAA Net Donations received/collected were $76,438, an increase of 51% over 2017 ($50,603) donations.  Over $65,000 of total donations were distributed directly to the beneficiaries.  $36,600 represents 48% of donations, an increase of almost 25% over the prior year of the total dollars donated were distributed in the form of direct grants to the families.

In 2018 there was an anticipated drop off in donations given the Assyrian Army transitioned off the battlefield in Iraq in August of 2017 but continued to play a critical counterinsurgency role in Syria, as they remained nondescript in their roles.

UAA started in our 2017 write up:  “In 2018, UAA began its transition in support of Governance Line of Effort in Iraq and along with our mission to support the Assyrian military families we also supported the educational programs and began transitioning for 2019 in support of the Development Line of Effort in the region in support of the Assyrian refugees returning home to Assyria Nineveh Plain (ANP).

Given the above, the largest non-program expenditure, travel, increased to $18,674.  The difference between 2017 and 2018, $11,751 respectively, was due to an increased number of engagements with strategic U.S. partners than other more tactical and operational efforts.  UAA has made its records available for viewing by following the links below.
